Three wilderness cabins are located in the back country in Haleakala National Park reachable only by hiking or on horseback. A permit is required to use a cabin. Only one permit is issued for each cabin for each night for a group of up to 12 occupants. You may reserve a cabin up to 90 days in advance of the first night of your stay. A partially refundable cabin fee of $75 per night must be paid within 5 week days of making your reservation. A refund of $65 per night will be granted for reservations canceled prior to 21 days before the start of the reservation. A $60 per night non-refundable fee is charged for reservations made within 21 days of the start date. Your stays in Haleakala National Park are limited to three nights in any 30 day period. Cabin stays are limited to two consecutive nights in the same cabin. Permits must be picked up between the visitor center opening and 3:00pm at the Park Headquarters Visitors Center or 1:00pm at the Kipahulu Visitor Center on the first day of your reservation. Please call ahead 2 weeks in advance if you wish to pick up your permit at Kipahulu.
